Outside Wrist Double Block
( 바깥팔목 헤쳐막기 bakkat-palmok-hecho-makgi )
Difficulty Level: Intermediate Technique: Blocks ( 막기 makgi )
This block ( 막기 makgi ) technique is used when the hands are crossed and pushed apart to loosen the opponents grip while they are trying to grab you with two hands. The Outside Wrist Double Block ( 바깥팔목 헤쳐막기 bakkat-palmok-hecho-makgi ) is usually followed by grabbing the opponents neck or head and pulling down to attack with the knee ( 무릎 mureup ) such as with the Knee Upward Strike ( 무릎 올려치기 mureup-ollyeo-chigi ).
The two fists are as high as shoulder level while the practitioner has to strengthen and maintain a strong posture to block ( 막기 makgi ). Don't let your fists extend outside the body lines as you want to keep a tight block ( 막기 makgi ) for optimal defense. This intermediate blocking technique is first introduced in World Taekwondo (WT) Taegeuk #7 태극 7장 Chil Jang Poomse.
Typically because of the angles involved, the Outside Wrist Double Block ( 바깥팔목 헤쳐막기 bakkat-palmok-hecho-makgi ) is used to block ( 막기 makgi ) against attacks aimed at the torso. Most critical organs are housed within the torso. For example, in the upper chest, the heart and lungs are protected by the rib cage, while the abdomen contains the stomach, kidney, and etc.
